Our hiker-designers have eco-designed this waterproof NH500 jacket, made of recycled polyester for your day hikes in rainy weather. Effective in a downpour, this waterproof jacket is very functional: 2 hand pockets with zip, 1 inside chest pocket, and a large, well-covering collar to protect you from the wind.
Recycled polyester
This jacket contains 85% recycled polyester. By recycling plastic bottles to produce our polyester, we have reduced the utilisation of oil-based resources while preserving the quality and performance of the material during your activities.
Water repellent without PFC
The fabric of this jacket is water repellent: it lets water slide over its surface without seeping in. In this way, the fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays lightweight and breathable.
The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior: it doesn’t use fluorinated compounds, which have a harmful impact on fauna and flora.
Waterproofing of the component of this jacket
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
This jacket is designed with a coated waterproof component (JIS 1092 standard): this component withstands 5000 mm H20 (Schmerber) before washing (i.e. the pressure exerted by a 5-metre water column).
WATERPROOFNESS OF THIS JACKET
The waterproof properties of this jacket aren’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.
Sewn then sealed, the overall waterproof properties of your jacket are measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
As such, this waterproof NH500 jacket protects you from a light shower, equivalent to 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Durable performance of your jacket
To maintain a durable water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
You can do this every three washes (it’s important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
– in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic programme)
– with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
– or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.
Fabric breathability
The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET = 12.Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability
